A parish council in Derbyshire is successfully bankrupt and prison proceedings towards councillors are a risk, in response to a report.

The report notes the council failed to stick to the monetary guidelines it set for itself it’s legally required to observe, did not set a funds for the present monetary 12 months, and did not maintain its accounts legally.

It says members of the general public may additionally litigate towards the council due to its failures.

The parish council can also be engaged in legally “non-compliant” disciplinary motion towards a councillor on the authority.

In April 2024, the parish council raised its share of council tax by 93% to attempt to alleviate its rising monetary issues.

On Tuesday, the chief and deputy chief of Bolsover District Council introduced their resignation from the roles.
